Training modes
ulTrain has three training modes - Hybrid, Endurance and Strength. You pick one during onboarding, and it decides which tabs, Home cards and features the app puts first. Your mode syncs across iPhone and Android through your account, so both devices always match.
| Mode | Best for | What you will see |
|---|---|---|
| Hybrid | Endurance and strength combined - runners who lift, athletes who mix both. | Everything: plans, the weekly planner, workouts and routines, activities, events, kit, both streaks and full analytics. |
| Endurance | Running, walking, hiking and event preparation. | Plans, Events, Kit, Activities, the race directory and endurance analytics. Strength tools stay hidden. |
| Strength | Gym and strength training. | Workouts, routines, exercises, rest timers and strength analytics. Endurance surfaces stay hidden. |
How to choose
- Pick Hybrid if your week mixes endurance sessions with gym work - it is the only mode that shows both sides at once.
- Pick Endurance if you are building distance, preparing for an event or simply moving more.
- Pick Strength if your training lives in the gym: routines, exercises and steady progress on the bar.
Not sure? Start with Hybrid - nothing is hidden, and you can narrow your focus later.
What each mode hides
Endurance mode hides strength features entirely - My Workouts, My Exercises, strength analytics, rest timers and workout CSV export - and strength sessions do not appear in the Activities list. Strength mode hides the endurance surfaces: Plans, Events, Kit, the race directory and My Events/Reviews. Hybrid shows everything.
What else adapts
- The tabs you can add to the bottom bar are filtered to your mode - see Getting started.
- Health import types adjust to the kinds of session your mode uses - see Activities & Health.
- Streaks change with focus: the Movement Streak counts consecutive days with planned movement, with recovery days protecting it, while the Workout Streak counts consecutive weeks containing a strength workout.
- The Analytics hero switches between "My Style" - your endurance identity - and "Training Style" for strength. See Analytics.
Switching mode
Go to Settings → App → "Training Focus" and pick a new focus whenever your training changes. Switching never deletes data: your activities, workouts, plans and history all stay stored. ulTrain simply reprioritises tabs, dashboard cards and features around the new focus, and everything reappears if you switch back.
